GSS Certified - Fast Rescue Craft (HSMOB) Coxswain Further Training

Course Description

This 1-day refresher course for Fast Rescue Craft Coxswains is designed to provide the opportunity for coxswains to practice high speed manoeuvres, rescues from the sea, boat transfers and launching. Developed by a number of O&G operators for their workforce, the course can be tailored to meet specific requirements.

What can the course lead to?

The aim of the programme is to give Fast Rescue Craft Coxswains the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and practice certain elements of their role which they cannot reasonably practice offshore.

What is the duration of the course?

The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 8 hours over 1 days.

Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.

What are the entry requirements?

Attendance on this programme is open to learners who are in possession of valid Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training certificate (BOSIET), Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS), TBOSIET (Tropical BOSIET), Further Offshore Emergency Response Training (FOET), Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CAEBS) or TFOET (Tropical FOET).

And;

A valid Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain Initial Training Certificate or Fast Rescue Craft Further Training Certificate,

Training contains physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such training must be medically fit and capable of participating fully. Delegates must either:

a. Possess an employing company approved medical certificate equivalent to an offshore medical certificate; or

b. Undergo medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by GSS.

Course Summary

Unit OIS 58: Rescuing and Recovering Casualties using a Fast Rescue Craft

Outcome 1: Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain Responsibilities.

Outcome 2: Principles of Recovering Casualties

Outcome 3: Leadership, team working and facilitation.

Outcome 4: Actions to be performed in a capsize.

Outcome 5: Preparing the FRC

Outcome 6: Launching, releasing and handling the FRC.

Outcome 7: Casualty Recovery

How is the course assessed?

Learners will be assessed against the theory outcomes through a written test.

Learners will be assessed against the practical criteria, through observation of them completing a series of manoeuvres and rescue exercises.
