GSS Certified - Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain (HSMOB) Initial Training

Course Description

This 3-day Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain training course is designed for individuals who are responsible for launching the FRC, performing high speed manoeuvres, rescuing from the water, boat transfers and more. Developed by a number of O&G operators, the course can be tailored to specific needs.

What can the course lead to?

The aim of the Initial Training is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform the role of an Offshore Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain effectively. The objectives are:

1. Delegates to fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the Offshore FRC Coxswain.

2. Delegates to understand the working mechanisms of the FRC, and how to safely launch and manoeuvre the FRC.

3. Delegates to ensure that the safety of the passengers is maintained throughout.

What is the duration of the course?

The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 24 hours over 3 days.

Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.

What are the entry requirements?

Attendance on this programme is open to learners who are in possession of valid Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training certificate (BOSIET), Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS), TBOSIET (Tropical BOSIET), Further Offshore Emergency Response Training (FOET), Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CAEBS) or TFOET (Tropical FOET).

Training contains physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such training must be medically fit and capable of participating fully.

Delegates must either:

a. Possess an employing company approved medical certificate equivalent to an offshore medical certificate; or

b. Undergo medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by GSS.

Unit OIS 58: Rescuing and Recovering Casualties using a Fast Rescue Craft

Outcome 1: Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain Responsibilities.

Outcome 2: Principles of Recovering Casualties

Outcome 3: Leadership, team working and facilitation.

Outcome 4: Actions to be performed in a capsize.

Outcome 5: Preparing the FRC

Outcome 6: Launching, releasing and handling the FRC.

Outcome 7: Casualty Recovery

How is the course assessed?

Learners will be assessed against the theory outcomes through a written test.

Learners will be assessed against the practical criteria, through observation of them completing a series of manoeuvres and rescue exercises.
